Buddhist Art and Epigraphic Practices across Asia, Munich, 18–19 March 2027
We are pleased to announce the international symposium Buddhist Art and Epigraphic Practices across Asia: A Cross-Cultural Conversation, which will take place at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (LMU) on 18–19 March 2027, within the framework of the Cluster of Excellence Cross-Cultural Philology.
The symposium aims to bring together scholars working on Buddhist art and epigraphic practices across different regions, languages, and historical periods, with particular attention to inscriptions associated with Buddhist objects, portable images (i.e., paintings, statues, altars), and material culture.
We warmly invite proposals for papers addressing these themes, including broader comparative and methodological perspectives.
Please find here (PDF, 4.553 KB) the call for papers with further information. Proposals consisting of a provisional title and a short abstract (approximately 500 words) should be submitted by 1 December 2026.
