- Dr. Paraskevi Toma has been a research associate at the Institute for Byzantine Studies, Byzantine Art History, and Modern Greek Studies at Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich since April 2025. Previously, she was a research associate at the Institute for Byzantine and Modern Greek Studies at the University of Münster (2015–2021), where she also served as a substitute professor of Byzantine Studies during the winter semester of 2020/21. In 2022, she conducted research as a Petra Kappert Fellow at the Centre for the Study of Manuscript Cultures at the University of Hamburg, further developing her expertise in the study of manuscript cultures. She completed her doctorate in Byzantine Studies at the University of Münster in 2018, having previously studied Classical Philology and Theology at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. Her research interests focus on Middle Byzantine literature and textual editing. Another focus of her work is the investigation of biological traces on manuscripts. Through the analysis of historical DNA, she gains insights into the use and social conditions under which manuscripts were created and transmitted.
