DAAD-funded International Training in Digital Imaging is in Practice at the SMÄK

The International Training in Digital Imaging Techniques for Cultural Heritage and Archaeology in Jordan and Egypt. The Guests Participated in Digital Photogrammetry at the Ägyptisches Museum München.

Munich, Germany - September 04, 2025 - The participants of the DAAD- and LMU Munich-funded program “Digital Imaging” visited the SMÄK (Staatliches Museum für Ägyptische Kunst, Munich).

The group, including Prof. Nicola Lercari and his team as well as students and colleagues from the Universities of Alexandria and Fayoum (Egypt) and Amman (Jordan), took part in a series of hands-on workshops.

During the sessions, selected objects from the SMÄK collection were photogrammetrically recorded, with the aim of producing precise 3D models. This practical training not only strengthened participants’ technical expertise but also deepened their understanding of the role of digital technologies in cultural heritage preservation.

The day was characterized by a fruitful exchange between science, technology, and culture, demonstrating the value of international collaboration in safeguarding and reimagining heritage for the future.
