Munich, Germany – March 18, 2025 – Our team and the participants of the Winter School: Methods in Digital Heritage met today at the Museum für Abgüsse Klassischer Bildwerke (MfA) to digitize various plaster cast replicas of renowned Classical and Hellenistic artworks. Participants utilized digital cameras and light boxes to capture hundreds of photos for each object and will later process these images into 3D models at our institute’s computer lab.

The MfA is a long-standing partner of our institute and hosts regularly exercise courses taught at LMU by Prof. Lercari and other team members. The digital twins created by our students are shared with the museum and contribute to enrich their online database.

This initiative is part of the International Winter School Methods in Digital Heritage at LMU Munich, which offers specialized training on innovative methods in the field of digital heritage. Participants have the opportunity to learn new ways to study and document cultural heritage, gaining proficiency in cutting-edge museum collection digitization techniques at the Institute for Digital Cultural Heritage Studies (IDCHS).
