On 24.07.2026, the Institute for Digital Cultural Heritage Studies (IDCHS) at LMU Munich recently welcomed Dr. Ruggero Pintus and technologist Antonio Zorcolo from CRS4’s Visual and Data-intensive Computing (ViDiC) Sector for a research exchange within the framework of the Horizon Europe EXCALIBUR project.
Held in the IDCHS VR Lab, the visit brought together researchers from both institutions to showcase ongoing work, exchange ideas on imaging, 3D and computational methods for cultural heritage, and explore opportunities for future collaboration.
EXCALIBUR develops advanced, accessible digital toolkits for the study, conservation, and restoration of burial heritage, including archaeological sites, tomb structures, artifacts, and human remains. The project contributes to the European Collaborative Cloud for Cultural Heritage (ECCCH), connecting digital technologies and interdisciplinary heritage research across Europe. (excalibur-eccch.eu)
The visit highlighted the complementary expertise of IDCHS and CRS4 ViDiC, whose research includes visual and geometric computing, computer vision, 3D/XR technologies, data-intensive computing and interactive exploration of complex cultural heritage models. (crs4.it)
