LMU launches Winter School, training students in digital museum collections and innovation methods
On 16 March 2026, the LMU Institute for Digital Cultural Heritage Studies officially launched the 2026 Winter School on Museum Collections Digitization and Dissemination Methods. We welcomed 14 international students from China, Egypt, Greece, Italy, Portugal, Spain, and Turkey, alongside a German student currently studying in Paris and an LMU Munich student.
Over the next two weeks, participants will engage in an intensive programme of museum visits, hands-on training, lectures on digital heritage, and presentations on applied research in the field. The Winter School is already underway, with students beginning training in digital photogrammetry in the computer lab and completing their first practicum at the Museum für Abgüsse Klassischer Bildwerke München (MfA). At the museum, they gained practical experience in carrying out digital interventions on museum objects using the MfA database and digital imaging techniques, strengthening their ability to connect collections-based research with innovative approaches to digital documentation.
