Bornholms Museum

In 2025, we will start collaborating with the Bornholms Museum to digitize a significant portion of its collection. This initiative aims to leverage advanced digitization technologies and methodologies to enhance the preservation, accessibility, and dissemination of the museum's valuable cultural artifacts. Our project goals are outlined below:

Project Goals

1. Creating Digital Twins of Museum Items

We will create highly detailed digital twins of selected museum items using state-of-the-art laser scanning technology. These digital replicas will capture each artifact's intricate details and dimensions, ensuring accurate and faithful reproductions that can be used for various purposes, including research, education, and virtual exhibitions.

2. Digitizing Metadata following Domain-Specific Ontologies

We will also digitize the metadata associated with each item in the collection. This process will involve following existing domain-specific ontologies to ensure consistency and accuracy. Where necessary, we will also develop new ontologies to address any gaps, ensuring that all relevant information is comprehensively captured and organized.

3. Releasing Digital Collections as Linked Open Data

The digitized collections will be made available as Linked Open Data (LOD), promoting open access and interoperability. By releasing the data in this format, we will enable researchers, educators, and the public to access and utilize the information innovatively, fostering collaboration and knowledge sharing across various fields.

4. Performing Quantitative Analysis and Developing Dissemination Tools

To maximize the impact of the digitized collections, we will conduct a quantitative analysis of the data. This analysis will help us uncover patterns, trends, and insights that can enhance our understanding of the collection. Additionally, we will develop user-friendly tools and interfaces to facilitate the dissemination of the digital collections, making it easier for diverse audiences to explore and engage with the artifacts.

Anticipated Impact

This collaboration will significantly contribute to preserving and promoting Danish cultural heritage. By creating digital twins and making the metadata available as Linked Open Data, we will ensure that the Bornholms Museum's collection is accessible to a global audience. The quantitative analysis and development of dissemination tools will further enhance the collection's reach and impact, inspiring new research and educational opportunities.
