Beyond the Chatbot: Rethinking Language Learning with AI

Date:

17 November 2026 - 19 November 2026

How can artificial intelligence support language learning without replacing the learning process itself?

This two-part event explores new ways of thinking about the relationship between teachers, students and AI. Rather than viewing AI simply as a tool that generates answers or corrects texts, we will consider how it can be integrated into pedagogically meaningful learning processes—supporting feedback, reflection, learner agency and critical AI literacy.

Turkish and other less commonly taught languages will provide a starting point for discussing questions that extend far beyond a single language or classroom.

The event will bring together Dr Nevra Lischewski, Lecturer in Turkish and Ottoman Turkish at LMU Munich, Dr. Marko Lukic, Head of the AI Team at UiT – The Arctic University of Norway, and Dr Christina Lentz, Lecturer and specialist in critical AI literacy at UiT.

The sessions will combine broader perspectives on AI-supported learning with opportunities for practical exploration and discussion.

Students and colleagues interested in language learning, multilingualism, digital education and the future of AI in higher education are warmly invited.

Participation is free, but registration is required.
