As part of an interactive workshop, students and interested participants were introduced to Linguistic Landscape Studies and explored the question of how Turkish becomes visible in Munich’s public space.
In addition to an introduction to the project Visible Turkish, participants became familiar with the research platform Lingscape and gained first insights into the documentation and analysis of linguistic signs in the urban environment. Particular emphasis was placed on selected taxonomies, which serve as analytical tools for describing linguistic landscapes.
The workshop combined research, teaching, and digital participation, encouraging participants to develop a greater awareness of urban multilingualism and to learn how to read cities linguistically.
Visible Turkish investigates the visibility of Turkish in Munich’s public space and approaches linguistic landscapes both as a field of research and as a learning space.
