These include old excavations from the early 20th century as well as rescue excavations from the recent past.

The aim of the project is to contribute to the exploration of Grünwald's prehistory from the Middle Bronze Age to the Urnfield period, as this was a particularly popular settlement area in and around Grünwald during this time.

The project includes the ongoing restoration and conservation of finds, which is being carried out by the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation. The material recording and drawing of selected finds, as well as the archaeological processing and evaluation, has been taking place at LMU since December 2011.

Following completion of the restoration at the BLfD and the scientific evaluation of the excavation findings and discoveries at LMU Munich, the project entered a new phase in 2023.
Comprehensive anthropological analyses of human remains from graves dating back to the Early and Middle Bronze Age are currently being carried out.
A monograph on the most important findings of various individual studies is currently in preparation.
